Ashar founded FireEye in 2004, and has since served in various roles within the company, including Chief Executive Officer, Vice Chairman of the Board, Chief Technology Officer, and Chief Strategy Officer. FireEye had an IPO in Sept 2013 where it raised more than $300M and priced at $20 a share.
Before founding FireEye, Ashar founded Terraspring, Inc., a data center automation and virtualization company acquired by Sun Microsystems, Inc., in November 2002. He served as Chief Technology Officer of its N1 program until October 2003. Before Terraspring, Inc., He was an engineer for Sun Microsystems, where for 12 years he worked on networking and network security. He holds numerous patents in the field of cryptography, networking, network security and data center virtualization.
Ashar received a B.S. in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.S. in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, where he received the U.C. Regents Fellowship.
